2019 Volkswagen Beetle Final Edition features

It seems we will soon be saying goodbye to the Beetle once more. Though the whimsical model has been going strong since the New Beetle revived it back in 1998, it won’t be lasting past its 21st birthday. We often talk about the Beetle having the longest-running nameplate in the lineup, but this can be misleading. It’s true that it never technically went out of production because the first-generation Type I continued in Mexico up until 2003. That doesn’t mean it was available in all markets. In fact, it went out of production for the U.S. after the 1979 model year, which means it was gone for nearly 20 years for us. Now it is about to be discontinued once more and the 2019 Volkswagen Beetle Final Edition is the last hurrah for the hatchback. Today we’re looking at the SE and SEL trims and what features you can expect. Read the rest of this entry »

Volkswagen V6 Passat discontinued for 2019

For many of us, a V6 still means power. It’s bigger and more robust, which is why it’s often seen as an upgrade over a 4-cylinder. Engineering advancements have made turbocharged engines much more competitive, with them found not only in compact cars, but even in crossovers. Recently, it has been indicated that the upcoming 2019 Volkswagen Passat will have the V6 discontinued as an option. Considering it wasn’t offered on any but the top trims, this isn’t surprising, though it may be missed. Read the rest of this entry »

Where does the VW Arteon get its name?

What’s in a name? For Volkswagen fans, the lineup can not only be hard to pronounce, but the model names have unknown origins. The Golf, which you might think gets its name from the popular sport (the hatchback is perfect for packing up those golf clubs), but the model is actually named for the Gulf Stream. The Jetta and Passat are likewise named after trade winds. Joining the lineup for 2019 will be the Volkswagen Arteon, and you may be wondering where this unique name originates. True, these colors are classic selections for a reason, but don’t most sports cars have a variety of impressive, vibrant hues? Yes, they do. Now the 2019 VW Golf R can too with the Color Spektrum Program. Read the rest of this entry »

The phrase “certified pre-owned” probably sounds a bit like a marketing gimmick for those who aren’t familiar with the automotive industry. What’s the difference between certified pre-owned vs used? You might not think much about cupholders now, but there was a time when these convenient little compartments didn’t exist. You might be surprised to learn that the first cupholders weren’t introduced until the 1980s, and even then it wasn’t a standard feature. Do you recall the case in which McDonald’s was sued for having coffee that was too hot? The car in which the passenger was sitting didn’t have cupholders. When you think of it that way, you might consider this to be a matter of safety. Volkswagen takes its cup holders seriously, as can be seen in the redesigned 2019 Volkswagen Jetta.
